Academy Admissions
At BHA we use Bristol City Council to coordinate all Reception place admissions. The closing date for applications to Reception is in the January for a September place. Places must be applied for on the Bristol City admissions website - please see link below. At BHA we admit 60 children each year into our Reception classes.
Over Subscription
Where the number of applications is greater than the published admission number the oversubscription criteria will be applied.
Allocations of places are made in the following order:
- Highest priority will be given to looked after children and all previously looked after children, including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order). All references to previously looked after children in this Code mean such children who were adopted (or subject to child arrangements orders or special guardianship orders) immediately following having been looked after and those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
- Those children with siblings of statutory school age already at Barton Hill Academy who will still be on roll in the September
- Those children living closest to Barton Hill Academy as measured in a direct line from the home address to the school.

In Year Admissions
In Year admissions are managed by the school.
In Year admissions should be made on the in year application form at the bottom of this webpage. You will be notified of the admission decision within 15 school days.
If we are not able to offer your child a place, you have a right to appeal and information will be provided in the letter of acknowledgement. A request for an in year appeal can be found at the end of this webpage.
Applications to places in the school during the academic year can also be made directly at the school. Please contact the school either by email, phone or in person to the school office.
