Physical Education (PE)
At Barton Hill Academy we recognise the value and the importance of physical education, school sport and physical activity (PESSPA) in ensuring that children lead active, healthy and happy lives.
A positive experience of PESSPA at a young age can build a lifetime habit of participation. Physical activity has numerous benefits for children and young people’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression). Children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers.
We have welcomed the Government’s additional funding to improve provision of PE and Sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this funding to enhance our provision of high quality PE, opening up opportunities to engage in competitive sports and to add to our existing resources.
